GeekFit is a health and fitness podcast–mostly. Steve and Jason team up to talk about their individual struggles with staying fit all while having “geeky” professions that leave them shackled to a computer more often than not. They review websites, gadgets, and anything else one could use to help motivate someone trying to lower or maintain their weight.

Steve Klassen is a solutions engineer for a software company based in Austin, TX but lives in the Great Northwest. At the beginning of his weight loss journey he weighed over 400 lbs and has since lost over 100 lbs with a combination of diet & exercise. His wife Ivy’s constant encouragement and the thought of growing old with her while staying healthy keeps him going.

Jason Tucker is a systems administrator for company in southern California. His motivation is his baby girl that was born a few months after the first podcast was released. He eats small meals often, takes walks daily at lunch while listening to podcasts, and gets to the gym as often as possible

How to Grow Your Geek: Parenting and More is not just for parents. It is for any of you who really want to enjoy sharing your pastimes with younger friends or family members. Hosted by Susie the Southern Geek, with occasional help from her kids, HTGYG covers lots of issues important to current and would-be parents such as health and education, as well as fun topics such as age-appropriate television, books and movies to share with any young person. Board games that are fun and educational are also reviewed, as well as websites and video/computer games. Susie also covers important cultural events, and how to help your kids enjoy them while learning from them. She also answers email and welcomes topic ideas and helpful advice and suggestions for shows.

Susie earned a Master of Science degree in clinical psychology, with specialties in health education and behavioral medicine, and very nearly earned her Ph.D., before realizing that she didn’t really enjoy being a therapist. She did enjoy her teaching experiences as a graduate assistant, and looked for more opportunities to teach, starting with psychology at a community college. She stopped working when her first child was born, and has, surprisingly, been happily at home ever since. She now spends a good deal of her time working with the PTA at her children’s elementary school, and enjoys working with other people’s kids in addition to her own “little geeklings.”

Susan is also a life-long sci-fi, fantasy and science geek, and loves to incorporate her favorite hobbies into her current career of raising her kids. She believes that including her kids not only strengthens her relationship with them, but also benefits their development of useful skills such as critical thinking, logic, creativity and reading comprehension, just to name a few. She also is a really big goofball, and tries not to take anything too seriously, especially her kids and herself!

Short Cummings Audio Presents Happily Domesticated

Kevin Cummings (host and author) believes the most rational way to respond to the world is to laugh at it. Each week, he delivers a brand-new funny story about life as he knows it. The result is a frighteningly regular six-minute podcast called “Short Cummings Audio.”

What is it like?

Think Erma Bombeck with a PC… Dave Barry with a recording studio… Garrison Keillor with a microphone… Wait, strike that last one. Think funny and occasionally geeky. Kevin dips into his day-to-day experiences as husband, father, and middle-manager, and mixes them with his geek tendencies to produce stories that bring a smile and make you feel like he might have been secretly watching your life.

In 2008, Short Cummings Audio was honored with the first ever Parsec Award for “Best Comedy or Parody Podcast.” For several weeks after receiving the award, Kevin assumed there had been a mistake in the judging and kept the trophy hidden in an undisclosed location.
