Adventures in Scifi Publishing began in October 2006 when creator Shaun Farrell decided to try something his hand at podcasting. Our first shows featured exclusive interviews with Ray Bradbury, R.A. Salvatore, Harry Turtledove, and Michael A. Stackpole. How could we stop after a lineup like that! We interview authors, editors, agents, publishers, artists, and a variety of other professionals from the science fiction and fantasy publishing industry. We have covered exciting events such as Comic-Con, the Clarion Writers Workshop, WorldCon, World Fantasy Convention, Condor, Conjecture, and live book readings. Occasionally we step outside the world of books and brave the frontiers of media, and on our website you will find interviews with Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis stars, musician Bear McCreary, and the filmmakers behind Ray Bradbury’s Crysalis. Whether you’re a writer or just love to read, you’ll find insight and entertainment in AISFP.

In addition to our podcasts, visit our website for book reviews, editorials, features, videos, news, and listener generated content.

An average of 170,000 books are published in one year… and out of those 170,000 books, you want the world to read yours.

The Survival Guide to Writing Fantasy was an inspiration following Westercon 58 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Tee Morris (a/k/a The Sarge) had just completed podcasting MOREVI (the first novel to be podcast from cover to cover) and was now launching Legacy of Morevi. At both the Dragon Moon Press book launch and the panels on self-promotion for writers, Tee discovered that while there were podcasts about the art of writing, none covered the business of writing. On October 31, 2005, The Survival Guide to Writing Fantasy launched.

This podcast goes into the nuts and bolts of what to do after you finish your work, before the finished complimentary copies come from your publisher. The topics covered deal with something as simple as a business card to putting together a press kit for your book and yourself. To be a success in writing takes more than just talent and opportunity, but it also takes a sense of business and a rooted perspective on what is happening in the publishing industry.

Welcome to Boot Camp, soldier. Time to face the obstacle course of a writing career.

The Kick-Ass Mystic Ninjas began as the sidekick nickname given to Summer Brooks and Joe Murphy on the original incarnation of “Dragon Page: Wingin’ It”. The nickname was the winning entry in a contest held to “Name the Sidekicks” back in the summer of 2005. Later, after much fan input and numerous fan requests, the Kick-Ass Mystic Ninjas spun off into their own show, focusing on older science fiction and fantasy books, television, and movies. After a few guest appearances, Dragon Page regular David Moldawer was added as a KAMN regular, and he eventually gained his own status as a full ninja after penning a brilliantly comedic skit that appeared on “Dragon Page Wingin’ It”.

Bringing you a mix of reviews and analysis of older novels, TV shows and movies from the science fiction, fantasy and horror vaults that you might have forgotten about or never heard of their first time around, typical shows run 45-60 minutes, with all three Ninjas discussing at length various points and details about the novel, show or film they’re tackling that episode.

The show changed during the spring of 2007, after Joe Murphy lost his brief battle with cancer, but returned with a new cast of ninjas to continue the task of introducing new fans to old works of scifi and fantasy.

In June 2003. “Cover to Cover” had made the jump to broadcast, finding an additional home on XM Satellite Radio, Channel 163 (Sonic Theater), and opening up a whole new fan base at the same time. “The Dragon Page” was also one of a handful of shows that began Podcasting in late 2004, almost at the same time the word was spoken. “The Dragon Page” has brought the best in sci-fi and fantasy literature, interviews with great authors, and important industry information, all wrapped up in weekly fun-filled episodes. “The Dragon Page” is now one of the oldest running programs online, lasting over 7 years and boasting over 400 episodes.

Says Mur: If you’re an amateur (fledgling, wanna-be, dreamer) writer, then you’ve probably got questions. From “how do I put this idea on paper” to “what do I put on a cover letter?”

I Should Be Writing is the award-winning writing podcast from Mur Lafferty. It’s a podcast for the wanna-be writer, someone who had always wanted to write but just hadn’t for… whatever reason. Mur’s still a wanna-be, trying to get published long enough to actually have learned something, or, at least, what not to do. The show features a report on Mur keeping herself honest, talk on writing, one or more interviews with a pro writer, and feedback.
ISBW is also a writing blog with a daily writing prompt called the News From Poughkeepsie, contributed by Jared Axelrod. The show notes are written with loving detail by Carrie Kei Heim Binas.

Mur is a freelance writer, podcast producer, geek, fangirl and mother. She’s been published in Escape Pod, Hub, and has two books in print (Playing For Keeps and Tricks of the Podcasting Masters.) She is represented by Brandi Bowles, of Howard Morhaim Literary Agency.
