How to listen

What is Podcasting?

Podcasting is in the simplest terms, ‘Radio On Demand’.  Think of the radio you listen to in your car.  Now, take all that great music, talk, news and audio content and place that into a media file that you can put onto a portable MP3 player that you can take with you anywhere. That’s Podcasting.

Listening to a podcast

This is no different from listening to anything pre-recorded. For example: You listen to taped recordings with… a tape player. You listen to records (remember records?) with… a record player. You listen to CDs with… a CD player. And you listen to podcasts with… a podcast player. Podcast players can be either hardware (like a MP3 player, iPod, mobile phone, etc.) or software (QuickTime, WinAmp, Pickle Player, PodPress Player, etc).  These choices allow you to listen to MP3 audio files at home or the office on your computer as well as when you’re in your car or on the go.

  1. Find a podcast player – There are plenty around. ITunes might surely be among the most popular, and most RSS readers are able to catch podcast feeds nowadays as well.
  2. Feed your podcast player - You can download files directly when you want them from the FarPoint Media website show pages or use an RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feed to have files sent to you automatically. All you need to do is 1) copy the feed link and 2) paste it in your podcast feeder. For more information getting a RSS feed from your favorite show, just click on the icon found on the show’s web page or on you web browser that looks like this:
